2017/2018 Tax Planning Letter

Dear Clients and Friends:

Important Congressional Tax Update

At this moment, the geniuses who run our federal government have just passed the tax reform bill they have promised for the last 7 years. We have written an article on the new law, and how it might affect you. If you are a client, it will arrive via email. If you are visiting our website, it is a separate article, entitled “Your New Tax Law: The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful.”

Here is our annual tax planning letter, with ideas on how you can shave your federal income tax before year-end. You still have plenty of time to impact your taxes for 2017.

As always, thank you for trusting us with your taxes. If you are new to us, we can only promise to treat your taxes – and finances – as our own. That’s why we don’t let anything out of the office that hasn’t been prepared and reviewed multiple times – to make sure you pay the least amount of tax – legally. And if you have decided to engage someone else to trust with your taxes, or have decided you and TurboTax can do the job of an experienced preparer, that is great, too. Somebody has to “volunteer” to pay down the national debt, and it will not be our clients.

Our Mission

Our clients need to know that we give their tax return our best work. It is a matter of pride that our clients do not overpay their taxes. Matthew 22:21 Jesus said “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.” We don’t believe in donating any of our clients’ money to “Caesar.”

What this Letter is

Our commitment to you includes updating you on things you should know and consider doing before the end of 2017 to save on taxes, and some ideas for 2018. In 2017, from our own internal surveys, @ 91% of self-prepared returns had errors and over 52% of other tax preparer’s returns had errors. None of our tax returns have been returned by the IRS in the last 6 years.

Executive Summary

Part 1: Warnings!!!
Part 2: Tax Planning and Savings Ideas for You
Part 3: Tax Planning and Savings Ideas for Your Business
Part 4: Tax Planning and Savings Ideas for Your Investments

Often we see returns prepared by other tax professionals that also miss deductions or tax credits and it costs the taxpayer unnecessary tax dollars (because it isn’t the preparer’s money – it is yours). Not us – we fight for our clients.
